Classroom design and organization is an important part of classroom management.  As a future teacher I searched the internet to find teacher sites that are helpful in designing and organizing a classroom.  Through my search I had the privilege to visit four websites that are great resources for classroom arrangement, organization, structure and activities you might as a teacher want to add to your classroom.  The sites and a brief description are listed below.

www.theschoolsupplyaddict.com/room-setup.html - This site contains teacher blogs showing classrooms of different grade levels.  I find it very helpful in that you can view the classroom designs of different classroom teachers to help in designing any classroom.

http://emilystuff.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/my-classroom-set-up-tips/ - I liked this teachers classroom. From the entrance you can see it has a welcoming, safe, and comfortable atmosphere.  The set up is both teacher and student friendly in that the students have easy access to the materials.  What I liked most is that the teacher does not have a big teacher's desk taking up space.

www.scholastics.com/teachers/unit/classroom-setup-and-organization-everything-you-need - Another teachers website I found to be a great resource for teachers.  This websites gives teachers tips on classroom set up and organization, bulletin board ideas and things as a teacher you will need in the various centers in the classroom.

www.thecornerstoneforteachers.com/free-resources/organization/classroom-seating-arrangements - This is a website of an 11 year teacher who is currently working as a educational consultant and instructional coach.  The site contains photos of various student desk arrangements.  Based on her experience she explains the pro's and con's to some of the many student desk arrangements one can choose.  She also has a tour of her classroom arrangement from her years in the classroom.  You can also view the classroom designs of teachers from different grade level.

As a future teacher I look forward to using these website to help me design and organize my classroom.  If you are a teacher searching for a classroom design then by all means take a look at the teacher sites above.

  1. Nasheen,
I really liked the last website you chose. I liked that they described the different ways to set up the desks in a classroom and gave the pros and cons to each different setting. It really made me think of what I want to do in my own classroom. I think it really depends on the number of children in my class and the personality of the students. If I have a lot of students who get distracted easily with those around them then putting desks in small groups might not work so well for that classroom. I think I will have to wait and see what kind of class I have to truly decide how to arrange the desk but this site gives lots of ideas! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank for your comment. That was my favorite also because it give a little bit of information on what to expect if you arrange the desk in a certain way. I think desk arrangement is important to classroom management learning whether it is teacher centered or student centered.

You have chosen some very interesting websites. I really like the second and the last one. They each gives you visuals that you can use to help design your own classrooms. There was one picture in the last that reminded me of how my grand daughters second grade classroom is set up. The teacher has her desks in groups of four facing each other. When I first saw this set up, my first thought was my grand daughter would be in constant trouble because she likes to talk. When I visited the classroom recently, much to my surprise, the students were all busy and not talking. This got me to thinking that maybe this teacher was on to something.
